Petition launched for Miss Universe Australia to step down

A petition is calling for Australia’s Miss Universe Moraya Wilson to step down, following reports that her parents owe $45 million to creditors.

According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) her parents, Anton and Melinda Wilson, owe $45 million to creditors following multiple company liquidations.

They also owe $21 million to the tax office, with Anton Wilson due in court next month for knowingly signing a false declaration and defrauding creditors of a bankrupt, according to news.com.au.

So where does Moraya come into all of this?

It is reported that she is the director of 10 companies that ASIC is looking to have struck off the business register, although she has denied any knowledge of, or involvement in the businesses.

Moraya said that she had “tendered my resignation from all of the companies”.

However, Anton Wilson's bankrupt trustee Nicholas Crouch, claims that Moraya was listed as the sole director of these 10 companies so that the family business can continue to run despite her parent's bankruptcies.

In a submission to a parliamentary inquiry into ASIC lodged last year, Crouch wrote: “21-year-old daughter is now nominated as the director of the family construction group.

“It would appear the family business has not been disrupted by strategic bankruptcies and liquidations.”

It is also alleged that one of the companies Moraya is a director of owes $13,204 to the Australian Taxation Office, which means that it was operating and trading as a business.

Her father claims that when Moraya was 19, and already successful in her modelling career, she wanted “to carve a career in property development”, so he offered her “general father-daughter advice”.

“I just politely, as a father does to his daughter, said ‘I’ll help you get into business’. Pretty simple,” Anton said.

Now, a Change.org petition has been launched by a member of the public, calling for her to step down as Australia’s top model.

The petition reads: “Miss Universe is an international competition that empowers women and promotes diverse representations of beauty across the globe. This beauty goes beyond appearance and includes character and personality …”

However, Moraya said that she still intends to compete in the international pageant later this month.

“I have become aware of a petition,” she said.

“I intend to fulfil my duties as Miss Universe Australia to the best of my ability with the full support of The Miss Universe Australia management.”

The organiser of the Miss Australia pageant, Troy Barbagallo also said that the controversy was “none of my business," and remains certain of his choice of Moraya as Australia’s top model.

“There is (a) wide range of criteria and a large selection committee who found Moraya to be the best person for the job among 24 exceptional women and we stand by that decision,” he said.

The model is set to travel El Salvador later this month for the international pageant.

Images: Instagram

Furious husband steals the show at a Brazilian beauty pageant

One beauty queen’s husband has caused a commotion at a pageant in Brazil, after the irate man stormed the stage to protest his wife coming second in the competition.

Audience members at the Miss Gay Mato Grasso 2023 pageant could not have predicted what was coming when Emannuelly Belini - the contestant representing the municipality of Várzea Grande - was announced winner, and Cuiabá’s Nathally Becker as runner-up.

The two embraced, with the crown on the way to Belini’s head, when Becker’s husband chose to storm the stage, bringing an end to the festivities when he snatched the sparkling headpiece only to smash it into the ground. according to local news outlet Globo.

Footage of the incident began to circulate online shortly after, and while Becker’s outraged husband has not yet been publicly identified, thousands are now equipped with the knowledge that second place sparks rage in the man.

He gave destroying the crown another go, and even tried to remove his wife from the stage, before the event’s security got involved and he was taken backstage.

The pageant’s coordinator, Malone Haenisch, later released a statement about what had transpired, trying to put reason to his actions, and stressing that the Miss Gay Mato Grosso judges had been fair in their decision to declare Belini as the winner.

“He did not consider the result to be fair and caused all this inconvenience and damage,” Haenisch said, according to the New York Post.

“We vehemently condemn the incident that occurred at the time of the crowning of the elected Miss when the partner of Miss Cuiabá, who was classified in second place, invaded the stage and aggressively destroyed the crown.”

“We confirm the pageant jury’s choice and we sympathise with the elected Miss, as well as [Becker], as she is not responsible for the crazy attitudes of third parties.”

Haenisch revealed that the pageant’s legal team had been informed of the events, and that any “necessary legal measures” would be taken, before circling back to the true star of the day - Bellini.

“The Miss Mato Grosso Gay pageant team congratulates Miss Várzea Grande, Emannuelly Belini, elected Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023 on the night of 27 May,” Haenisch said.

“We reiterate our best wishes and wish you a glamorous reign, and that your activities may reflect the voice and desires of the LGBTQIAP+ community.”

Images: TMZ / Youtube

Queen Elizabeth’s “unlikely friendship” with Tom Cruise

Queen Elizabeth II really enjoyed meeting Tom Cruise in the weeks before her death that she organised to have him celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

The late British monarch “really hit it off” with the Top Gun star but the pair were unable to rekindle at the Platinum Jubilee due to the Queen’s mobility issues.

However, the Queen was adamant on seeing Tom again that she organised a tour of Windsor Castle.

“The Queen let it be known that she was really disappointed not to have met Tom at the pageant, so he was invited to have a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything laid on for him. Afterwards, just the two of them had tea together,” the source said.

Tom enjoyed his time at the castle that he was also given the opportunity to fire a ceremonial gun.

“She loved seeing him and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch. He was even allowed to fly in by helicopter,” the source continued.

Unfortunately, the lunch never happened with the Queen passing away at the age of 96 on September 8.

Tom has previously spoken of his admiration for Queen Elizabeth saying everything she has achieved are historic.

“She’s just a woman that I greatly admire. I think she is someone who has tremendous dignity and I admire her devotion. What she has accomplished has been historic,” he said at the time.

Images: Getty

Outspoken transgender activist buys Miss Universe pageant for $31 million

A Thai business tycoon, celebrity, and transgender activist has purchased the Miss Universe Organisation for a hefty $31 million, according to an announcement made by her company.

Chakrapong ‘Anne’ Chakrajutathib, who has starred in reality shows and spoken out about being a transgender woman, controls JKN Global Group Public Co Ltd, which acquired the rights to the beauty pageant - which is broadcast to 165 countries - from IMG Worldwide LLC, a sports, talent and events marketing company.

IMG has held the rights to the Miss Universe pageant since 2015, with former President Donald Trump partially owning it for 19 years until IMG’s purchase.

To own the Miss Universe Organisation, JKN said it established a US subsidiary called JKN Metaverse Inc.

In a statement, Ms Chakrapong said the purchase was a “strong, strategic addition to our portfolio”, which includes content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty and consumer products.

JKN said the addition of the Miss Universe Organisation would see them use the name to promote its consumer products.

A profile in the Bangkok Post on Ms Chakrapong, who founded the non-profit group Life Inspired for Transsexual Foundation to promote trans rights, said she was harassed for identifying as female while studying at an all-male school.

When she saw financial success, Ms Chakrapong spent $1.5 million on sex reassignment surgery and other procedures, according to the outlet.

While Thailand has a positive reputation when it comes to the rights and lifestyles of LGBTQ+ communities, a report from the Human Rights Watch found that transgender people in Thailand had limited access to services and are exposed to daily indignities.

The report came to this conclusion due to the an absence of procedure for transgender people to legally change their gender, as well as insufficient legal protections and social stigma that trans people experience.

Image: Getty Images

View from the hot seat: Mike Tindall's insight into Prince Louis' antics

Going down as one of the most memorable moments from The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Mike Tindall has revealed the reason behind young Prince Louis' cheeky behaviour.

Tindall says the four-year-old prince had "complete sugar highs" during the Jubilee Pageant on Sunday after consuming handfuls of sweets behind the scenes.

In full view of the world's media, Prince Louis was seen putting his hand across his mum's mouth, trying to shush her as she attempted to tell him to sit still, making a funny face and blowing a raspberry in her direction.

Kate swiftly put Louis' hand down, before he did it again with his left hand.

The little prince was excited throughout the parade, running up and down the seats, pulling his cousin's hair and eventually jumping onto his grandfather Prince Charles' lap, for a quick break.

Tindall was photographed jokingly warning Louis that he was watching him from the seats above.

Two days earlier Prince Louis stole the show during Trooping the Colour, pulling a series of funny faces as the rest of the royals watched a flypast of aircraft from the palace balcony.

Tindall, also revealed the Queen's grandchildren and their families enjoyed a private lunch after Trooping, describing it was one of his highlights from the four-day celebrations.

He spoke about the Jubilee and Louis' mischievous antics on his podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby.

"Louis, he was just wanting to have fun, and my two [daughters] are always mischievous, so it was trying to keep a lid on," Tindall said.

"There was a lot of sweets out back, though, so they had complete sugar highs. It's tough for them. They're all young, so asking them to sit, because it was two 'til five or whatever, it's a long time.

As any parent knows, you just do whatever needs to be done."

Tindall was seated directly behind the Cambridges at the Pageant with his wife Zara and their children Mia, eight, Lena, three and Lucas, one.

Prince William and Kate later joked about their youngest child's actions, writing on social media, "We all had an incredible time, especially Louis".

Image: Getty

Lip reader reveals insight into THOSE scenes between Kate and Louis

Prince Louis’ adorable antics certainly stole the show at the Platinum Jubilee, however, it seems not everyone was fond of his behaviour.

A lip reader captured a serious parenting moment between the Duchess of Cambridge and young Louis, as the family were sitting in the royal box on the final day of celebrations.

The Cambridges were enjoying the colourful floats at the pageant and Louis was seen pulling faces and getting tired and restless.

According to lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman, Kate had some stern words for her youngest during his grumpy moment.

Jeremy says when Kate spotted Louis picking his nose and put his hand down, she said to her son: "You have to."

"I don't want to," Louis reportedly answered, before cheekily covering his mum's mouth. Kate then replied: "I said no hands!" and gave him another serious look.

The lip reader says Kate once again told Louis to stop with his antics after he stuck his tongue out. "Stop doing that," she said.

A sweet moment between Prince Louis and his older cousin Mike Tindall was also caught on camera. While Louis was misbehaving, Mike was seen jokingly warning the young Royal that he was watching him from the seats above, gesturing to his eyes.

There were other moments when Louis sat in the lap of dad Prince William and granddad Prince Charles.

The Prince of Wales was seen bopping his grandson with his legs and also pointed out parts of the display to him.

Prince Louis was also spotted having a great time dancing along to the music as the floats went by.

Kate's relatable parenting moment captured the hearts of millions as they watched the Cambridges enjoy the Jubilee carnival.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made light of Louis' cheeky behaviour in an Instagram, sharing ten unseen photos from the Jubilee celebrations.

Freeman also caught a precious exchange between the Queen, and her great-grandson during their balcony appearance at Trooping the Colour.

Reportedly, Prince Louis looked up to his great-grandmother and asked: "Are the Red Arrows coming?"

The Queen replied, "I hope so." At one point, the Queen told Louis to "look at the smoke".

The young royal also expressed amazement at the Armed Forces jets, turning to his mother and saying: "Woah."

At the end of the display, the monarch told her great-grandson: "Let's go, it's finished now."

Body language expert Judi James told the publication that the monarch and Prince Louis shared "childlike excitement" on the balcony.

She explained: "Louis stepped in front of the Queen before tilting his head back to engage her in some animated conversation as they waited for the Red Arrows.

"Louis made this conversation look like the most natural thing in the world and his lack of anything bordering on fear suggested these two might share a rather close friendship based on shared fun behind the scenes, too."

Image: Getty

Australian Governor-General slammed for insensitive comments about the Queen

The Australian Governor-General has been slammed for making insensitive comments about the Queen during the Platinum Jubilee.

David Hurley, the Australian representative of Her Majesty, was in the UK for the Jubilee celebrations and appeared as a guest on Ben Fordham’s 2GB program.

Fordham asked Hurley about the possibility of Australia becoming a republic, however the response was not well received by listeners.

"I think at the moment people centre on the Queen, and then when she goes, when she passes, then the succession comes in, there's a new discussion in Australia," Hurley said.

Fordham immediately questioned what Hurley meant when he said “when she goes?”

“It's her big celebration. Imagine going to someone's anniversary or birthday party and saying 'now listen, when she's gone’.”

"We don't talk about that now. You're over there representing Australia and it hasn't gone down well I can tell you."

Some comments from listeners included: "Disgraceful, whose side is he on?"

“Very poor taste,” another commented.

"How insensitive can you get? And while he may be correct, I think it was a bizarre comment to be making during this very important celebration,” someone else said.

Fordham that despite her mobility issues, the Queen was “impressive” by making appearances during the Jubilee.

Hurley’s comments come just days after Matt Thistlethwaite, the Assistant Minister for the Republic, said it was time for Australia to think about what comes next when the Queen passes away.

"I'd like to congratulate the Queen on her jubilee and her reign. I think she's been a fantastic monarch and leader of the commonwealth,” Thistlethwaite said.

"But as she comes to the twilight of her reign I think Australians are naturally beginning to ask themselves what comes next for Australia.

"Do we want King Charles or are we mature enough or independent enough to look to appoint one of our own as our head of state?"

Ben said the comments from both Hurley and Thislethwaite were “appalling”.

Image: Getty

Outrage over coverage of Charlotte at Platinum Jubilee

Viewers of the Platinum Jubilee’s Party at the Palace have criticised the BBC for showing Princess Charlotte looking “bored”.

The young royal attended the concert celebrating the Queen’s 70 years on the throne with mum, Kate Middleton and Dad, Prince William alongside older brother George.

She looked thrilled for much of the evening, proudly waving a flag with her sibling. But occasionally, the camera panned to the seven-year-old yawning and looking a little disinterested.

Those watching at home were quick to condemn the broadcaster, insisting the children had had a long day, with both George and Charlotte accompanying their parents on a royal visit to Wales that morning.

Children’s author Helena Pielichaty said: “Stop panning to Prince George and Princess Charlotte just to catch them looking bored and fidgety – give them a break.”

Someone else wrote on Twitter: “Everyone saying Prince George and Princess Charlotte are ‘bored’. Prince Charles’ emotional tribute to “Your Majesty, mummy”

Prince Charles paid an emotional tribute to “Your Majesty, mummy” during the star-studded Party at The Palace concert.

The Prince of Wales poured his heart out as he praised the Queen for being with Brits “in our difficult times”.

Millions of viewers watching from home were deeply moved as he said: “You have met us and talked with us.

“You laugh and cry with us and, most importantly, you have been there for us.”

Directly addressing The Queen as “Your Majesty, mummy”, he said: “The scale of this evening’s celebration – and the outpouring of warmth and affection over this whole Jubilee weekend – is our way of saying thank you – from your family, the country, the Commonwealth, in fact the whole world.

“On behalf of us all, I wanted to pay my own tribute to your lifetime of selfless service.

“Your family now spans four generations. You are our Head of State. And you are also our mother.”

And he said the Queen’s “strength and stay” – her late husband Philip, who died last year – is “much missed”.

“I am sure he’s here in spirit,” Charles said.

“My papa would have enjoyed the show and joined us wholeheartedly in celebrating all you continue to do for your country and your people.”

He addressed the crowd only moments after his son, the Duke of Cambridge, took to the stage to speak about the Queen’s service, using this time to talk about the environment, praising his father Charles and grandfather Philip for their work.

“While no one’s grandmother thanks them for talking about their age, my own grandmother has been alive for nearly a century,” he said.

“In that time, mankind has benefited from unimaginable technological developments and scientific breakthroughs.”

“And although those breakthroughs have increased our awareness of the impact humans have on our world, our planet has become more fragile.

“Today, in 2022 – as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee – the pressing need to protect and restore our planet has never been more urgent.”

However, he said he is an “optimist” and said the Jubilee has provided great “joy” to Brits.

William was accompanied to the concert by wife Kate and their eldest children Charlotte and George.

The family were seen laughing and joking together as they took their seats for the party at Buckingham Place and hundreds of thousands of people lined The Mall to celebrate. There were huge cheers as the Cambridges arrived, hours after a royal visit to Wales with their two eldest children.

The Queen did not attend the festivities, although she recorded a hilarious clip with Paddington Bear, which was screened before the performances began.

Images: Getty

Prince Louis’ antics spark criticism for Kate Middleton

Prince Louis has stolen the show for a second time on the last day of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations by pulling faces and even shushing his mother, Kate Middleton - but his exuberant behaviour has prompted some to criticise how the four-year-old is being parented.

The little prince was seen clenching his fists, jumping up and down in his seat, and pulling a variety of exaggerated faces while watching Sunday’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant with his family in the royal box.

Prince Louis is the gift that keeps on giving #PlatinumJubileePageant pic.twitter.com/eDR8sMn2It

— Dan Walker (@mrdanwalker) June 5, 2022

Though plenty of people who took to social media about it found his antics to be quite delightful - describing him as iconic, expressive and “the gift that keeps on giving” - some weren’t as impressed.

“At what point do we go from ‘Wow, what a relatable toddler moment’ to ‘Wow, you have no control of your children’? Because that video is (cringe emoji),” one user wrote.

“I just think an expert in early years would have a better understanding of which events your 4 year old could handle and which events he can’t. Prince Andrew tests positive for COVID-19

Prince Andrew has tested positive for COVID-19, and his limited appearance at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be entirely scrapped as a result.

Buckingham Palace confirmed his positive result on Thursday, with a spokesman adding he would no longer attend Friday’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, as reported by news.com.au.

“After undertaking a routine test the Duke has tested positive for Covid and with regret will no longer be attending tomorrow’s service,” the spokesman said.

Queen Elizabeth II has also withdrawn from appearing at the service at the last minute, citing “discomfort” according to the Palace.

If she and Prince Andrew had attended, they would be joining a large contingent of their royal relatives, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke of York was also notably absent from the Buckingham Palace balcony during Thursday’s Trooping the Colour, after the Queen only allowed for working royals to join her at the iconic spot.

As a result, she was joined by Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and several minor royals.

Her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, didn’t appear on the balcony but could be seen watching from a palace window.

Having spent time with the Queen prior to testing positive, some are concerned that Prince Andrew may have exposed the monarch, who previously caught the virus in February.

However, the BBC have reported that Andrew has undergone regular testing and hasn’t seen the Queen since testing positive.

The Duke has stepped away from his public role in recent years, and has appeared in a limited capacity following his settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault.

Image: Getty Images

Adorable Prince Louis upstages entire royal family

Adorable Prince Louis was seen jumping with glee and making all kinds of crazy faces after he was wowed by the Red Arrows during the Jubilee celebrations.

The young Prince, 4, beamed with excitement and chatted to his great-grandmother the Queen as they watched the impressive show from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Her Majesty is marking her 70 years on the throne with a four-day bonanza that kicked off with Trooping the Colour.

She was clearly very amused by Louis’ reaction as he excitedly awaited the spectacle in the sky.

Her Majesty watched the celebrations overhead, surrounded by her immediate family. Kate Middleton, 40, was seen whispering in little Louis’ ear before he frantically waved up above at the passing planes.

Prince Louis and his older sister Charlotte then continued their playful waves while the rest of the royal family grinned at the adorable children.

The Queen pointed into the distance, before eagerly chatting to Louis again – redirecting his attention to the latest RAF fly-past.

A very giggly Louis then started jumping up and down on the spot, despite appearing to have calming words whispered to him by his mother.

The young Prince then turned to his great-grandmother and asked her a question – as she looked adoringly back at the four-year-old.

Louis and Princess Charlotte then grabbed and covered their ears as the booming sounds overhead passed by.

As the Red Arrows aerial display team passed, Louis’ jaw dropped as the Prince turned again to the Queen in disbelief at the amazing sight.

The Queen was joined by senior royals including Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton for a spectacular British Royal Air Force fly-past. Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and Meghan were noticeably absent after Her Majesty limited the line-up to working royals only.

However, the couple have been given prime seats to watch the landmark event after they arrived from the US on Saturday. It is not clear if children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, are in attendance.

A whopping 1200 officers and soldiers from the Household Division took part in the Birthday Parade this morning.

The display marked the first event of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bumper weekend.

Images: Getty

Beautifully understated new portrait of the Queen released

In celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the palace has released a new official portrait of the monarch to mark the occasion.

As is royal tradition with important milestones, official portraits often get taken for birthdays, anniversaries and other achievements, and Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne is no exception.

Taken by Ranald Mackechnie, who also shot the Queen's portrait for her 90th birthday, as well as one to mark the start of a new decade in 2020, the portrait features Queen Elizabeth in the Victoria Vestibule at Windsor Castle on May 25th this year.

The Queen's outfit in the portrait was designed by Angela Kelly, the Queen's longtime confidant and wardrobe advisor.

The Queen also released a statement along with the portrait, saying, "Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth."

"I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions. I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm."

The specially commissioned photo was released to mark the beginning of her official Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which begin with the Trooping the Colour Parade on Thursday.

This is in conjunction with Macca's UK changing its 'I'm lovin' it' tagline to 'One's lovin' it' for the Jubilee.

However, the biggest stir wasn’t caused by the change to the tagline and theme tune. Surprisingly, it's in the news that the company is launching a limited-edition china dining set, in the shape of iconic McDonald's packaging, so fans can dine 'like a queen'.

The set includes a Big Mac box, fries pack and milkshake cup, all recreated in china and marked with Platinum Jubilee detailing. However there are only 70 sets available to win in the UK via the McDonald's UK app.

It has also been reported that the Quarter Pounder with cheese will be renamed the Royale with Cheese for its own royal makeover from Thursday June 2nd, to Friday June 3rd.

Image: Instagram
